A Few Sound Thoughts on Solar Pool Covers

With energy costs on the rise, the growing trend among more of todays swimming pool owners is the use of solar pool heating equipment including of course, solar pool covers. By definition, solar pool heaters fall into the category of "passive" solar systems, in that they have no moving parts and don't transfer energy in the same way as say, photo voltaic cells do.

Solar Pool Covers - A Passive Solar Heating System

Passive solar systems such as solar pool covers as a general rule also tend to be among the least expensive and the easiest to install. In short a solar pol cover is simply a pool cover that has been adapted to attract and transfer to the swimming pool water the maximum amount of heat energy as is possible.

Manual and Electric Automatic Solar Pool Covers

Solar pool covers come in a wide range of prices and styles. There are the least expensive that have to be manually operated when it is time to remove or cover the pool with it and then up from there are the solar pool covers that retract and extend out with the simple touch of a button.

Just Add Sunlight

Naturally, the amount and intensity of the suns rays will have a direct impact on how well a solar pool cover works on any given day. On a cloudy winter day don't expect to notice too much of an effect from a solar pool cover. Likewise, on a hot and clear summer day their total effect will be much more noticeable.

For a Warmer Swimming Pool

If you are looking for a swimming pool that will be warm every time that you use it, you may want to use a solar pool cover in conjunction with a more conventional heating system, such as gas. Or you can use a solar pool cover as part of a more elaborate non passive solar pool heating system.
