Above Ground Pools: Pros and Cons

If you are just now getting started with planning to have a swimming pool built in your yard, then for sure you have your plate full of decisions that have to be made. Now one of the first things you will have to decide on is whether to go with a prefabricated pool or to go with a conventional concrete and tile built-in. Both types of pools have their advantages, and disadvantages, so check some of them out.

Number one on your list is cost, and let there is no doubt about it but that an in-ground pool is going to cost you a whole lot more than a prefab. Then another thing to keep in mind if you're planning on putting your home up for sale when the market picks up is that you aren't guaranteed to recoup the cost of the pool. In fact with the current glut of unsold homes, you can pretty much count on losing money, so you may want to opt for a prefab unit.

Then for sure one glaring downside of a prefab swimming pool is that you just don't have the creative leeway for design features like you do with a built in. As a matter of fact, when it comes down to it you have but two choices. An oval or a round and you can just forget about things like attached Jacuzzi or islands. One thing that you can get now though is a larger pool because you can now have a prefab custom made to pretty much any size.

Then one more positive aspect worth considering is that above ground pools install a heck of a lot faster. A conventional pool can take several months to complete, and also your entire yard is going to be torn up. That's both your front and back yard, because the heavy equipment has to have some way to get in. On the other hand, with a pre-fabricated pool, often times no ground work is even required.

Then again with concrete swimming pools you get the actual concrete and tile which a lot of people for sure prefer. The problem here though is that these people who prefer the concrete, all too often aren't the same folks who are going to have to end up cleaning and maintaining it. Built-in pools take a lot of work to keep up while your other option has no concrete that needs to be regularly scrubbed.

Then the final undeniable plus for today's above ground swimming pools is that they put the option of having a pool in front of so many families that simply don't have the money for a built-in. So in terms of a fun factor, it means millions of kids and grownups too, now have a place to swim and play that they otherwise wouldn't if not for this easy and affordable option.
