Cutting the Cost of Swimming Pool Chemicals

People that purchase their first swimming pool are often surprised at the amount of money they end up spending on pool chemicals. Chlorine, muratic acid, soda ash and algaecide are just normal staples to have on hand; and they can get to be costly. With a bit of initial outlay, you can cut back tremendously and keep your pool crystal clear and safe to swim in.

Salt

Chlorine has long been the standard for keeping pool water purified to swim in. What most people don't know is that the chlorine they are adding to their pools was made by electrically charging salt water. Once you have your chlorine generator installed and start using salt, you will save a lot of money. No more costly chlorine tablets. Since most saline systems are self regulating, you will also save on algaecides. You will also be able to wear one swimsuit all year, and not have the elastic falling apart from too much chlorine. Not to mention the softness of your water if you use salt.

CO2

Instead of having to keep both muratic acid and soda ash on hand to take care of any pH imbalances, using CO2 to keep the acid/alkaline level in balance is a definite money saver. Keeping your pH in balance will save on having to have your pool bead blasted, will keep your equipment from corroding or becoming caked with calcium, and will alleviate the whole problem of storing dangerous chemicals. An added perk to having your pH in balance all the time will be the comfort of the swimmers. Contrary to common belief, it isn't the amount of chlorine in a pool that causes red eyes and dry, itchy skin, it is the pH level. The human eye has a pH of 7.2, which is a good place for your pool water. If your water is too off from that, eyes will be irritated.

By changing to salt and CO2 other pool additives will no longer be needed to keep your swimming pool water crystal clear and healthy for swimmers. They are also less expensive than their counterparts. Changing your system will make bathers more comfortable, decrease the amount of time it takes you to maintain your pool. And increase the amount of money in your pocket.
