Does Your Pool Filter Cartridge Require Backwashing?

Backwashing is only possible in sand and diatomaceous earth filters. Cleaning a cartridge pool filter is comparatively simple and requires hosing off the cartridges with water at regular intervals.

Backwashing is done by reversing the direction of water into and out of the filter by pulling up or pushing down on the plunger of a push pull valveAs an alternative, the pump is shut off, air bleeder opened to drain the tank, lid removed, cartridge(s) removed, rinsed properly from top to bottom. In fact, with low maintenance and affordable cartridge filters around the hassle of backwashing requiring large consumption of water is done away by simply hosing off the cartridges with water. However, it is recommended to replace your pool filter cartridges every year to sustain the sanitation of your pool and to prevent the water from turning green faster.
