Having a swimming pool is an investment for many people, but what they don't realize is that proper swimming pool maintenance is also part of the deal if they want to make sure that every time they want to take a dip in the pool, it's always clean and pristine.

A big factor that comes into pool maintenance are the chemicals used to help, well, maintain them. I used to have no idea about the chemicals used in my pool, but I learned that as with any other investment, you have to know the ins and outs of what you've gotten yourself into. And knowing about what kind of chemicals go into your pool is one of the most important steps in doing that.

There are two common types of chemicals used in swimming pool maintenance, the more common to us of which is chlorine. Chlorine tablets go in your skimmer, and for an average-size pool, it takes 4-6 tablets a week to kill off the germs in your pool, especially if you use it a lot. But most of the time, many people don't realize that using chlorine alone

Alkaline is another chemical used in the pool, mostly to keep the PH level of your pool balanced since using chlorine alone will raise its PH level and turn your pool green, and you don't want that. These chemicals do tend to cost a lot, but when the safety of the water and its maintenance is in question, you should be ready to spend money. In the long run, it will be more advantageous to you and you end up saving more money that you'll otherwise spend in having your pool overhauled completely.
