Are you searching for a great family vacation destination this summer? Would you like to find a family vacation spot that offers both excitement and quiet down time? Sherkston Shores in Sherkston, Ontario may be just the place for you. I've been going there for over 40 years and can't wait for the next time I can get there for a long weekend or week of rest and relaxation. I never run out of things to do there and neither will you! You'll be amazed by the choices you have inside the resort and within a a short drive.

If you like to lay out and get a tan or go swimming, Sherkston has plenty of choices for you. First there is the clean sand and crystal clear water of the Lake Erie beach. Yes, I said crystal clear. Last time I was there, we were out sailing in 20 feet of water and we could still see the bottom! Next is the old rock quarry. The guarded quarry beach is perfect for everyone because near the shore the water is shallow and perfect for the kids but a little farther out the water gets very deep very quickly for you more adventurous swimmers.

My father has been going to Sherkson for well over 50 years and he says that a crew was digging stone one day at the quarry and struck water. The quarry filled up very quickly and the crew escaped leaving some interesting things behind. He told me that there is even a railroad car sunken on the floor of the quarry!. I don't know how much of this story is fact and how much is legend but I'm betting on it all being true. There is an underwater diving group that dives at the other of the quarry every weekend so there must be something down there worth exploring.

If you just want to sit back and relax, you're going to enjoy the two swimming pools with hot tubs. While you're swimming or relaxing, your kids can have a great time on the four water slides right near the pools. If you rent a cottage directly from the resort, the pools and water slides are included in your rental package.

Swimming is only one of the fun things you can do at Sherkston Shores for the entire family. If you love golf, there is an 18 hole miniature golf course and a nine hole pitch and putt course (of course there are lots of 18 hole courses within a short drive of the resort. If your kids are into basketball, tennis or hockey, they'll find places to play and other kids to join the game. There is also a Main Street area in the resort that has a fully stocked camp store, a game room for the youngsters, a church and a doughnut store (donuts are very popular in Canada). Finally, there is a restaurant/bar that has live entertainment and adult beverages for those over the age of 19.

Sherkston consists mainly of private and rental cottage units. There is also a section where you can pitch your tent and stay for a day, a week, or longer. If you just want pack your picnic cooler [http://www.picnic-basket-set.com/picnic-coolers.html] and go for the day, there is a daily admission policy.

Don't forget that if you're coming from the United States, you'll need a passport or passport card to get back home.

Stay tuned for more articles in this series on Sherkston Shores. In the next installment I'm going to tell you about the unbelievable smallmouth bass fishing in the resort. In future articles, I'll talk about things to do outside Sherkston including my own take on Niagara Falls.
