How much does it cost to fill an above ground pool?

Many customers seem to think that it will cost them hundreds and hundreds of dollars to fill their above ground swimming pool. This is not the case. Now for an in ground pool, this may be the case, because you are dealing with at least twice the amount of water than an above ground pool. Here in Atlanta, GA we find that the cost of filling a 24' above ground pool varies from city to city, but the average is anywhere from $100 to $125. As you see it's pretty consistent from city to city. The only time I've seen water bills go higher than this is customers that live in communities that have a private community water source. In these situations there is a limit on how much water each household in the community can use and filling a pool will take you over this limit sending you into the $300 to $500 range for filling a 24' pool.
Now if you are using a well at your house as a water source, you may be nervous to try and fill the pool out of your well in fear that you may run your well dry and burn up your well pump. What we have done with a great deal of success, is have our well water customers run their wells for about 2 hours and then turn the water off for 2 hours and allow the well to refill itself. By doing this, it will take 4 or 5 days to fill an average size above ground pool, but its free water and you can't beat that. In this situation having water hauled in may be your only option. I have seen water hauling for a 24' pool range in price from $350 to $1000 depending on the company and their charges. I usually try to recommend that my customers use their well water in this situation, but run the water for a few hours and then turn the water off for a few hours. This allows the well to replenish itself with water and helps protect you from running your well dry. This may take longer to fill the pool, but its freeâEUR¦and frees good.
All in all, filling a pool is usually between $75-$200 depending on the city and your particular situation. Much less than most customers seem to expect that it will be.
