How To Remove Leaves From Your Pool Cover

by Pool Builders on 12-24-2012 in Articles

The purpose of your pool cover is to keep leaves and other debris out of the water, allowing you to enjoy a pristine swimming experience. When you look up and see all of the leaves gathered in patches on the plastic, however, this can often make the space feel less inviting. To clean the leaves and other debris off so that sunlight streams down into your pool, you can use the following tips:

  • Use the garden hose to spray the leaves and debris off the other side of the cover. Make sure that you (or someone else) go around afterwards to pick up the leaves, otherwise they will break down on your lawn or patio.
  • Use a broom or a rake to drag the leaves to the edges of the pool cover so that you can collect them. You might want to wear gloves if the leaves are wet and have started to break down.
  • Use the pool skimmer to collect as much of the leaves and debris that you can reach from the edge of the cover (keeping in mind that it should have an extendable arm). Place the debris in the bin.

As each of the methods requires you to climb a ladder up the side of your pool cover, it is important that you exercise precaution at all times. Have a second person stand on the ground to support the ladder and make sure that you are able to hold onto the edge of the cover, regardless of whether you are hosing, raking or skimming the top.
