How to Care for Your Swimming Pool

When you first get your swimming pool, you don't want to be overwhelmed by what to do. You'll want to seriously consider hiring a pool service company. They will do most of the work for you leaving you to just enjoy your new pool.

You want to make sure you're going to hire the right kind of company. Take these things into consideration when you choose.

You want to first of all, be sure that the pool service company has proper credentials. I would look for companies that belong to these trade organizations:

International Pool Service and Spa Association (IPPSA) and the National Swimming Pool Foundation (NSPF). These types of organizations let you know that the people you want to hire have had actual training and that they follow certain guidelines to ensure professionalism. Pool company technicians should be CPOs or Certified Pool Operators. You don't want something to go wrong because you've got some untrained guys messing with your swimming pool. You can also check with the Better Business Bureau and your local Chamber of Commerce to check on these companies. This will be your starting place to find the right swimming pool service company.

Now, make sure you know what to expect from this company. You'll want to know what services are commonly included and what services are not commonly included.

Services can vary from company to company, but most will include:

1. testing and balancing water chemistry
2. vacuuming
3. cleaning the filter
4. checking to make sure your pump and other equipment works properly
5. emptying baskets

These items are usually covered in your normal month-to-month pool service agreement (there is usually some kind of contract that you should be able to scope out before agreeing to hire someone).

There are usually other services offered by pool service companies that are not included in the month-to-month agreement. These other services will be charged to you separately and include things like, treating stains, equipment repairs, and adding water to the pool, etc. When you are researching to hire your pool company, you should ask them what other kinds of services they offer. You could then base your decision on that if you prefer to keep your service within the one company.

Many pool companies also build fencing and decks for your pool, but not all, so if you're looking for that too, just make sure to ask.

The best way to get the most out of your pool service is to ask questions. Ask them what services are included in the contract and what other optional services they offer. Then, sit back and enjoy your pool after all, you deserve it!
