Polaris is a leading source for premium quality pool cleaning equipment. Serving the industry for nearly forty years, Polaris has established itself as one of most reputed brands. Some of the products offered by the company are Polaris pool filters, booster pumps, pool cleaners and filter bags.

A pool filter is a vital element for maintaining a sparkling clean swimming pool throughout the year. It helps to remove the fine debris and prevents the growth of harmful contaminants, such as viruses, bacteria, insect larvae and algae. This keeps the pool water clean and healthy, and ensures the well-being of the swimmers.

Polaris Pool Filters: Tips for Cleaning a Cartridge Filter

However, it is important to clean and maintain your Polaris pool filters properly, to ensure their proper functioning. Cleaning cartridge filters can be a very tiring and time consuming task. It is preferable to collect 5 to 6 filters and clean them together, instead of cleaning 1 filter at a time. Here are few tips to make the process easier:

1. Turn off the swimming pool equipment: Switch off the main circuit breaker for the pool equipment. Also, ensure that the equipment and pump do not get started accidentally while the pool filter is taken out.

2. Release the Pressure: Open the pressure relief valve, located on the main filter, to release pressure from the system.

3. Drain out the water: Unscrew the drain plug and remove it from the filter to drain off the water.

4. Open the filter housing: Once the water is drained off completely, open the filter housing carefully and remove the dirty cartridges.

5. Clean the cartridge thoroughly: Clean all the dirt and debris collected on the cartridge with the help of a high pressure spray nozzle on the hosepipe. Once the filter is cleaned allow it to dry under the sun.

6. Re-install the cartridges: Re-insert the cartridges carefully into the filter. Restart the swimming pool equipment once the filter is reassembled.

The frequency of cleaning of Polaris pool filters depends on several factors, including whether there are trees surrounding the pool or some construction going on nearby, and the period for which your swimming season extends. However, one of the best ways to determine the appropriate time to clean the filters is to observe the pressure displayed on the pressure gauge. It is preferable to clean the filter when the pressure exceeds 10 psi.
