You may be the proud owner of a concrete swimming pool which has been your regular support in your fitness and fun routine. But it is extremely important that you constantly check for any cracks or chipping of the surface which might gradually damage the concrete pools. These damages might be because of improper installation or due to adverse weather conditions. Nevertheless, if you are careful enough to notice any such things and repair them in time your pool will be just fine.

Repairing your pool is no arduous task. With little care and effort you can easily repair the small damages that might occur to your pool. You do not require any professional assistance if the crack in question is tiny. With the help of some plastering mixture and basic tools these little damages could be easily rectified.

How to repair a minor crack

First thing that you need to do while repairing the crack in concrete pools is that you have to deepen the crack nearly half an inch more and widen the crack at both the ends. It is possible that the crack might contain sand particles and other dirt and dust elements which need to be cleared before the repairing is done. Once you have widened the crack apply caulk. This will enable the crack to be water tight, preventing water from leaking into the crack. Give it time to dry as the caulk contains water. There should be also space to apply the plaster.

When the caulk has dried up, apply the mixture of white Portland cement, sand, bonding agent and water and fill the crack completely. It is necessary that you keep this recently plastered surface moistened for few days so that the mixture is set properly. With these simple measures you can make sure that your pool is in good condition.

Repairing the plaster of the concrete pool

Rectifying the cracked plaster is a bit more difficult task than repairing smaller cracks. Without disturbing the solid parts remove the loose plaster with hammer and chisel. Make pool match by mixing two-thirds of sand and one-third of Portland cement and add bonding agent. Make it semi-solid by adding sufficient amount of water. Apply this mixture and fill the area completely. Smooth the edges of the new patches with water and make it even with the surface. Moisten it till it is firmly set.

Seeking professional assistance

Sometimes you may not be successful in repairing the damages that have occurred to your pool. You might need the assistance of a professional especially for large cracks, plumbing problems or troubles with the filtration system as you may not have enough experience and resources to rectify these problems. You need to contact the right person or agency to do the job for you as armatures can further damage your pool. Such timely professional assistance and intervention will ensure that the concrete pools are devoid of every possible damages and cracks.
