Swimming pools, at least ones that are located in resident's backyards, typically are a great setting for holding a children's party. Community pools are also great for children's parties. Chances are, there are a lot of parties in Camarillo and Westlake Village too. In fact, throughout California, residents are enjoying backyard parties more than ever. If your child is having a birthday soon, why not consider throwing a great backyard birthday party. Backyard birthday parties are gaining in popularity as more people are looking for ways to throw a party on a budget. Here are a few ideas for throwing a great backyard birthday party for your child in your very own yard:

o Pick a great theme. Choosing a theme will help you as you plan and organize. Most party stores have thematic party favors as well as table clothes, plates, napkins, etc. Invitations are available with many themes and are a great way to introduce the theme of the party to invitees.

o Have a covered area available in case of rain. Backyard parties are great, but occasionally rain can put a damper on the festivities. Often times, rain showers last only a short time, but it is important to have a covered area where guests can congregate if necessary.

o Have water accessories and towels available for guests. Even though you may specify on your invitations that your party involves water play, there may be some children who come unprepared. Having a selection of water toys available, such as dive sticks, boogie boards, and noodles will give all the kids something to play with while they are in the water. Make sure to have an area clean and ready for guests to change in or out of a wet suit.

o Have games for the kids. Even if the kids are enjoying water play, it is a good idea to have some structured games ready for them to engage in. Whether those be water games, corn hole, or old standbys such as pin the tail on the donkey is up to you. Adult led games are a good idea for keeping kids from too much unsupervised play.

o Keep the food simple. Grilling out is the perfect option for a backyard birthday party. There is minimal clean up and just about every kid likes burgers and dogs. Depending on your theme, you can choose foods that coordinate and that are fun to eat.

o Have enough drinks. Count on everybody to work up a thirst at your outdoor party. Disposable drinks in their own container, such as juice boxes, bottles of water, or cans of soda are good options as they are easy to clean up and liked by everyone. Have plenty of variety and plan on each person drinking more than one beverage.

o Pick the right time for your group. Think about the age of your invitees and plan accordingly. If the children are very young, stay away from nap time. Whether you are providing lunch or dinner, or just providing cake has a lot to do with the time frame as well.

o Set up a gift table. This lets everyone know where to put gifts and keeps gifts from being lost or misplaced.
