New York City Swimming Pools - Stay Cool

For those of you who are looking to keep cool in New York City during the summer, why not try one of the city's many swimming pools? There are both public and private pools, so you can choose which you prefer.

The Astoria swimming pool is one of the largest public pools available. It is located on19th street and 23rd Drive in Astoria, Queens and is always crowded with kids. The pool is open seven days a week from 11:00am to 3:00pm and 4:00pm to 7:00pm. The pool is free like most of the other public swimming pools throughout the city.

If you want to go to Brooklyn, then try the Red Hook Pool which is at Bay Street and Clinton Street. This pool is also very crowded, especially with teens and families from Brooklyn. There is no cost for entrance to the pool, but make sure to bring your own towels.

In Manhattan, the place to be is at the John Jay New York City Municipal Pool. There are two pools including a regular one mostly for kids and a diving pool which is usually being used by adults.  Entrance to the pool is free and it open daily from 1:00pm to 7:00 pm.

If you're not a fan of public pools, there are many private swimming pools to choose from. Most private ones are located in the expensive hotels of Manhattan. There are also pools in some of the high-end athletic clubs throughout the city.  These options usually require that you're a guest of the hotel or a member of the sports club, but there's always ways to get around this requirement.
