Pool Alarms Save Lives

Spring is on the way and soon pools covers will be coming off and pools will made ready for the summer. Children and grandchildren will be anxiously waiting for the first dip of the summer. Parents and grandparents will be inflating floats and water wings. Swim season is on the way.

Before taking that first swim of the season a major concern should be pool safety. Reports show that on average between 300 and 350 children die each year from drowning and many more are treated in hospital emergency rooms from near drowning incidents in swimming pools. The majority of these incidents occur while swimming at home.

An unsupervised child can slip into a pool and lose consciousness in two minutes or less underwater. As all parents know children can get out of sight in the blink of an eye. Although we try very hard to supervise our children, we do lose sight of them at times.

Children are not the only ones at risk. A visiting friend that can't swim could slip and fall into the water. An elderly parent or grandparent could lose their balance and fall into the pool. Even an adult that is a good swimmer could fall, hit their head on the pool side and need assistance. Our family pet may find his way into the pool and not be able to climb out.

Another risk is the uninvited visitor. Swimming pools are a great temptation to neighborhood children. Although most homeowners have fences surrounding their pool, a fence can't always stop a determined child or teenager. Where there is a will there is a way. A pool alarm can alert you that someone or something has created a breach.

Before opening that pool consider adding a pool alarm. A pool alarm can make the difference between life and death. An alarm system can alert homeowners when there is an intrusion or unexpected breach of the swimming pool water.

There are several types of pool alarms. Most alarms use sensors to detect motion in the water. There are alarms that float in the water and those that mount on the side of the pool. Some alarms work on above ground pools, some on in ground pools and some work on both above ground and in ground pools. Pool alarms emit a loud alarm both at pool side and inside the home.

Pool alarms are reasonably priced and easy to install. Before you open your pool protect your loved ones with a pool alarm.
