Pool Winter Cover - The Lazy Pool Owner's Guide

by Pool Builders on 12-07-2009 in Articles

It is imperative to use pool winter cove. This covering device is applied to protect the pool against debris and other elements brought about by winter.

It also helps to preserve and sanitize the water. Covering them during the off-season prolongs the life of your recreational facility. Moreover, closing will allow you to use them when spring season comes.

Here the four steps in closing swimming areas suited for lazy owners like you or lets just say people who do not have much time:

Step 1: Clean

Clean your swimming area and decks. If you have a pool cleaner, just keep it inside your storage. Use an automatic pool vacuum so that you wont be doing any hard work. Carefully brush the walls and decks. Use a skimmer net to catch and remove the floating debris on your pool water. If your pool has skimmer basket, throw away all the debris collected inside.

Step 2: Apply

Get a few amount of water from your swimming area and have it checked by a pool professional. Testing the water alone can be aggravating for you, so let the smart pool people do the water test. If the water is unbalanced, this is the time to use winterizing chemicals. Apply the chemicals and follow the concentration level needed. If you can't do it, hire a professional. After applying the chemicals, run your pump for two days.

Step 3: Drain

Lower the level of your water. Make sure the water is 6 inches below your skimmer. Draining prevents your skimmer from freezing water. After draining, clean the filtration system of your pool. If your filters have been used for six months or more, replace it immediately.

Step 4: Cover

Put your pool winter cover across the pool. Make sure your cover has an ample space on sides. Use water tubes to secure the cover on its place. You may also like to put water on the surface. The water will provide weight on the cover.

There you have it. The steps are simple to follow and we hope your pool will be safe throughout the season.
