There's Still Time To Host A Winter Pool Party

You might live in an area of the country that isn't 100% hospitable to a pool party right now, but with a little planning, you can host a backyard pool party and have a winter bash.

Your friends might think you're a little crazy for inviting them to a winter pool party but if you have a heated or indoor pool, you can most certainly host a party even in the winter months. If you don't have an indoor pool but do have a heated swimming pool or a spa, the warmth of the water will make up for the cold dash to and from the house to the pool. While most winter pool parties take place at indoor pools, if you and your friends are hearty you can brave the elements and have a party.

Don't let a little bit of snowfall stop you from having a summer-themed pool party. Blow up some beach balls, set up the lawn chairs and fire up the barbecue. When you send your invitations, ask your guests to bring along swimsuits, sunglasses and flip flops.

Even if you and your friends can't bring yourself to imagine it's summer in the middle of winter, why not incorporate the season into your pool party? Use snowmen and snowflakes for decoration. If it's close to Christmas, invest in a pine tree or two and decorate it up! Bake up holiday cookies and get out the candy canes. Add non-water related entertainment by showing movies but why not try popping popcorn out on the barbecue? Valentine's Day in the winter? Get the heart designs and red decorations out. St. Patrick's Day can still be cold and snowy in some parts of the country so host a green-themed shamrock event.

Depending on the weather, set up outdoor fireplaces or rent some space heaters around the pool and have plenty of warm beverages and hot food available for your guests.

In the northeast, locals undertake what's known as a Polar Bear Plunge. During this bone chilling event, participants don their swim suits and hop into the freezing waters of the Great Lakes! This event is frowned upon by medical experts. If your pool isn't heated and a few brave souls want to take a quick dip in your pool, let them try. Have heated towels ready for them for when they get out of the water.

Depending on the local ordinances where you live, why not set up an open pit fires and cook hot dogs over the fire, toast some marshmallows and make some s'mores. Pop up some popcorn on the open flame as well.

Your pool is likely closed this time of the year and if you can't bring yourself to uncover it, see if you can rent a pool at the local gym for a few hours. There are likely indoor pools in your area or even hotels with pools that might allow you to rent it for a pool party. No matter which direction you take, having a pool party in the winter is a great way to break the monotony of the sometimes dreary winter season. Hosting a pool party in the middle of winter will certainly offer your guests a unique time your friends will remember for a long time.
