Every parent should know that teaching children to swim is a vital part of life and understand how it can benefit them long term especially as they become a teenager and start venturing out on their own. First of all the safety aspects are common sense especially if your child is active and involved with friends and their community. One out of every 5 to 10 private homes have a swimming pool or body of water nearby which means your child is at risk of drowning if they donâEUR(TM)t have the skills to save themselves in the event that no one else is around to help them.

Staying Fit and Being Competitive

With each lesson your child is getting exercise which they are more than likely considering fun which is a good thing. As each new lesson brings them closer to being finished it will help give them confidence in their abilities which many children use to push forward in other areas of their life and even compete on their school swim team or club teams. You will be giving your child the benefit of being able to accomplish something young that will give them that extra boost that they need to push forward with a new energy.

Teaching Them Dedication

While many parents will allow their child to drop out after just a lesson or two the best thing you can do as a parent is to encourage your child to continue on even if they are not thrilled with what is being offered. In order to achieve something you must first work for it and by teaching your kids to stick with the lessons you are teaching them about dedication and how if they work hard they will achieve something in the end.

Being a Good Role Model

Depending on the age of your child they may be scared of the unknown such as getting in the water the first time or being in a new group which is why for the first few lessons you should join them in the water if itâEUR(TM)s allowed. Everything that is expected of your child should be done by you first to show them that itâEUR(TM)s okay to try the new things being taught and that there is a purpose to it. If you give your child a sense of security they will be more open to trying new things.
